The timeline may be wonky, but we all know without a doubt that Luke Skywalker was trained by Yoda in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

However, it turns out that Yoda wasn't too happy with his new student. He had another in mind – Luke's twin sister, Leia.

Gary D Schmidt's story 'There is Another' in the new From a Certain Point of View book reveals that the exiled Jedi Master was keen to train "young Skywalker", but was unhappy when realising that Obi-Wan Kenobi's Force ghost had been referring to Luke.

Yoda thought that Leia had much more potential than her brother, who he saw as impetuous, impatient and too much like his father, Anakin.

Of course, Obi-Wan convinced Yoda to train Luke – although it remains to be seen whether his initial reaction to the twins was the right one...

Yoda has been rumoured to return in some form in Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it arrives later in the year.

Star Wars canon has always hinted at Leia's potential, but she has remained a politic and military figure who never trained to use her powers properly.

From a Certain Point of View is a collection of short stories that fill in the gaps in classic Star Wars tales, from the thoughts of the Stormtrooper who stunned Leia in A New Hope to Captain Antilles experiences between Rogue One and Episode IV. It is on sale now.
