Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve has responded to those James Bond 25 rumours by not really saying much at all.

Back in July, Villeneuve was one of three directors that were said to be considered for the next 007 outing and following the critical success of Blade Runner 2049, those rumours aren't going away.

But he's being coy about it all. "I cannot talk about that," he told Time Out. "But let's say that for me to do a Bond movie would be a deep, deep pleasure."

Intriguing.

With Bond 25 already set for a 2019 release, work will likely have to start on the movie sooner rather than later, but Villeneuve might be too busy for it.

He was confirmed as the director of the Dune reboot earlier this year and only last month, he was reported to be in talks for Sony's long-gestating Cleopatra movie based on Stacy Schiff's book Cleopatra: A Life.

And that's not even getting into the possibility of Villeneuve being wanted for a third Blade Runner movie.

Of course, his enthusiasm to direct a Bond movie doesn't rule him out doing one in the future, even if he can't free up his schedule for Bond 25. So he might get a shot at a new 007, with Daniel Craig hinting that the next movie will be his last.

Blade Runner 2049 is in UK cinemas now and in US cinemas tomorrow (6 October). Bond 25 is out in US cinemas on 8 November, 2019, with a traditional earlier release in the UK to be confirmed.
