Though the movie is not suitable for young viewers or anyone offended by unsavoury behaviour, Boogie Nights is an excellent movie. It's the breakout film from director Paul Thomas Anderson—one that uses the porn industry to show the dangers of committing at least six of the seven deadly sins. It doesn't end well for anyone! If anything, it should be a good example of how not to live your life. It should strike fear into the hearts of any impressionable child who wants to grow up to be a porn star. And it's a movie that Mark Wahlberg prays God will forgive him for making.

Here's a scene as described by the Chicago Tribune:

Standing next to Cardinal Blase Cupich on Friday night in Chicago, Wahlberg, a committed Catholic, told Chicago Inc., "I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I've made some poor choices in my past." Asked if he'd ever prayed for forgiveness for any movies in particular, he added, "Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list."

In Wahlberg's defence, if I was standing next to a man of God, I'd probably ask for forgiveness for every career choice leading up to that exact moment. But, of all the titles to be on the "Movie Choices I Hope God Forgives Me For" list, shouldn't there be about two dozen Wahlberg films above Boogie Nights? Why not Transformers: Age of Extinction or Transformers: The Last Knight? How about Daddy's Home or Daddy's Home 2? Maybe Ted or Ted 2? What about Rock Star or Max Payne or The Other Guys or Entourage or Planet of the Apes or The Big Hit or The Happening or Mojave or The Corruptor or The Truth About Charlie or The Lovely Bones or Broken City or The Gambler (literally a sin) or Shooter (again, a sin) or Four Brothers or The Perfect Storm?

Mark Wahlberg also hopes to be forgiven for his racist assault of a Vietnamese immigrant in the late '80s.
