Star Wars: The Last Jedi is fast approaching with most of its secrets still intact – though that hasn't stopped fans from speculating and theorising about which direction the action will take us in.

In a new interview for Digital Spy, John Boyega has cleared up a certain rumour about his character: whether Finn could be a Jedi.

Certain hints (and a bit of wishful thinking?) have suggested to some fans that Boyega's Storm Trooper defector Finn is Force-sensitive and could go on to explore his Jedi side. Various inspirations include the fact that he's handy-ish with a lightsaber, he believes in the Force, and that Kylo Ren seems to sense him after he's defected.

However when asked if he'd like to be a Jedi, Boyega was fairly conclusive.

"Would I like to be a Jedi? I think it would be more interesting if they had more than one person be a Jedi – but I think that that is the one of the unspoken laws of Star Wars. They only have one who has to go away and train," he said.

We know that the one person who'll train as a Jedi is going to be Rey, so dismissing the multiple Jedi theory does rather put a lid on that idea. That's not to say Finn can't rise to be an equally interesting kind of hero in Last Jedi.

"I hope it takes an interesting turn; not in terms of being a Jedi, but there are loads more stronger characters in the Star Wars universe that can go up against Jedi and they don't necessarily have to be a Jedi," Boyega explained.

"I would like to explore that more; the whole Boba Fett vibe. I would like to explore that for Finn, but who knows?"

Star Wars: The Last Jedi storms into UK cinemas on 14 December, 2017 and opens in the US on 15 December, 2017.
