Striking new Star Wars: The Last Jedi IMAX and Dolby posters seemingly hints at a dark path ahead for Rey (Daisy Ridley).

As you can see below, Rey is directly placed in the middle of the forces of the Resistance — including General Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Finn (John Boyega) — and those on the Dark Side such as Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) in both sets of promotional art:

Literally placing Rey in between the two sides, and cloaking her in the Sith's red colours, may well be not-so-subtle hints towards her joining the Dark Side... or perhaps it's all just a clever ploy to throw fans off.

The most recent Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer centred around Rey consistently being discouraged from exploring the Force by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), seemingly leading her to turn to Kylo Ren instead.

"I need someone to show me my place in all of this," she appears to tell Kylo Ren as he extends his hand to her.

There has since been speculation that Rey's appeal and Kylo Ren's embrace are actually from two completely different sections of the film, although that is simply conjecture at this point.

Regardless of which side Rey eventually ends up on, fans have pieced together footage from recent Star Wars promotional material to make a convincing case that she will battle Luke Skywalker at some point during the movie.

As for the how and why, we'll have to wait until The Last Jedi's cinemas release next month to find out!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on 14 December in the UK and 15 December in the US. Watch a previous teaser below:
