Good news, Stephen King / horror fans – Pet Sematary is creeping into cinemas in 2019.

Paramount Pictures announced on Thursday (December 8) that its new adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 horror novel will hit screens on April 19, 2019 (via Entertainment Weekly).

Pet Sematary follows recent Stephen King remakes IT, Gerald's Game, 1922, The Dark Tower and Mr Mercedes, as well as the incoming Castle Rock.

The film, which was previously adapted in 1989 by Mary Lambert, found its directors back in October, confirming duo Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, who directed 2014's Starry Eyes.

Pet Sematary follows the Creed family, who move to a new area and learn there's a burial patch that will apparently bring dead pets back to life.

Meanwhile in Stephen Kingdom, IT smashed box office records in cinemas, while Gerald's Game was met with rave reviews – sort of making up for the flop that was The Dark Tower.

It was also revealed earlier this year that Stephen King wasn't consulted at all about the remake of killer clown movie IT...

"I wasn't involved at all. I wished them well," he said, before admitting: "Geez, I don't even think they sent me any swag from that one! But maybe that's a good thing. I've seen it, it's fabulous."

We wait with baited breath to see if Zelda – pictured at the top of this article – is anywhere near as terrifying as the original, played by Andrew Hubatsek, when Pet Sematary rises again on 19 April, 2019.
