Since the release of The Force Awakens last December, one of the hottest debates among Star Wars fans is about who Rey's parents are. For months people have thrown around theories—the most common being that Rey is the daughter of Luke Skywalker or of Han Solo and Leia. Turns out those are both wrong.

During a talk with Chris Rock for the Tribeca Film Festival, a kid named Kyle in the audience asked J.J. Abrams the only question that mattered: Who are Rey's parents? Abrams's response:

"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII. So I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too."

That means they're not Han, not Leia, not Luke, not C-3PO, not anyone. So who?
