Listen up horror fans, John Carpenter is coming back to the Halloween franchise for its 10th sequel, and he's promised to make it the most terrifying film yet.

The legendary filmmaker will act as executive producer, helping to bring Michael Myers back to the big screen next year.

Carpenter said: "38 years after the original Halloween, I'm going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all."

The first Halloween movie introduced the world to the villainous Myers in 1978.

Carpenter directed the film, and was involved in multiple sequels as a writer and composer.

Trancas International, Miramax and Blumhouse will release the new movie, rumoured for a 2017 release date, with Malek Akkad and Jason Blum also on board to produce.

The news comes after the filmmaker said back in 2014 that he wished there had only been one Halloween movie made.
