Emilia Clarke Throws Her Hat In The Ring To Be The Next Bond

Finally, a 007 we can all agree on?

Could we really be heading for a female James Bond?

Since Esquire advocated the idea by endorsing Emily Blunt earlier this month, last week X Files star Gillian Anderson posted a picture of herself on Instagram that appeared to declare her interest.

Now Emilia Clarke, the actress who plays the formidable Daenerys Targaryen on Game Of Thrones, has shared her own ambitions in an interview with the Daily Star.

"I have a lot of unrealised dreams. I would love to play Jane Bond," she said.

Pretty clear, then.

Also stoking the female Bond rumours - perhaps inadvertently - was outgoing director Sam Mendes, who said during a debate at the Hay Festival last weekend that the next 007 casting would be a surprise:

"There's this constant debate about who's going to be the next Bond. The truth is - and here's the headline: it's not a democracy," he told festival goers. "It's not the X Factor, it's not the EU referendum, it's not a public vote."

"I can guarantee whatever happens with it, it will not be what you expect. That's what she [Broccoli] has been brilliant at, and that's how it'll survive."

The suspense continues.
