Deadpool promised us that it would bring Wade Wilson's partner/straight man Cable to its sequel in its after-credits scene, and thanks to the huge success of the film, Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox don't have much option of backing out now.
But who will they choose for the time-travelling commando mutant in Deadpool 2?
Speaking on Meet the Movies, Mashable's Jeff Sneider said that he has been hearing a surprising but kind of brilliant name thrown around for some time - Saturday Night Lights, Bloodline and Carol star Kyle Chandler.
He also mentioned The Martian actress Mackenzie Davis in connection to Domino, a mutant mercenary with luck-altering powers and a long history with Cable and Deadpool.
Sneider was quick to add that this was far from official.
Cable is a warrior from the future who led the more militant wing of the X-Men and is actually the son of X-Men leader Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey. It's complicated.
Reynolds is returning to play Deadpool, with director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick also signed on.
Deadpool 2 is expected to begin shooting in early 2017 for release in January 2018.
