As Faye told Don Draper in the fourth season of Mad Men, "You only like the beginning of things." That's a perfect analysis given Don's tendency to prefer the romanticised beginnings rather than the less hopeful and more tragic middle and ends.

You'll never forget Frodo and Gandalf leaving Sam and Merry and Pippin to sail away on that boat. You'll never forget Wilson floating away from Tom Hanks. You'll always long to hear what Bill Murray whispered in Scarlett Johansson's ear. Because these are imperfect endings—stories that don't fit with our fairy tale longings. We dwell on them as if they were our own missed opportunities. But that's how life works! People come and people go and all that.

So, go and hide from your colleagues and have a healthy cry to the greatest character exits of all time.

Or, you know, just watch it and have a nice time.
