If there's anything that can distract us from the inevitable Trump-led apocalypse and myriad other madnesses facing the globe right now, it's a nice, sweet, totally-not-just-for-children-shut-up Pixar movie.

They always manage to remind us about the inherent goodness of people, and rekindle our faith in the power of kindness and friendship.

That is, until you look back with a fresh pair of eyes and realise that they're just yet another reason to feel miserable and dead inside.

Case in point: Jon Negroni makes a very convincing case about the true identity of Andy's mum from the Toy Story series - and it all started with a hat.

Did you ever notice that Andy's cowboy hat looks nothing like Woody's?

In fact, if anything, his hat is nearly identical to Jessie's...

We know that Woody is a collector's toy from the 1950s along with Jessie (oh hey, Woody's round-up) and that "he's been in Andy's family for a long time" but he has no recollection of any previous owners.

But Jessie remembers hers - Emily, who heartbreakingly outgrew her doll. ?

Now, just take a look at the hat on Emily's bed - doesn't it look suspiciously similar to Andy's?

Not to mention the psychedelic decor and record player in Emily's bedroom which indicate that she grew up in the '60s and '70s.

That would mean Emily in present-day Toy Story would be old enough to be a mum. Does this mean Andy's mum is Jessie's former owner, Emily?

She abandoned Jessie - her best friend- on the side of the road, to fend for herself.

Chilling.
