Jack O'Connell has been cast in possibly his biggest role yet - as British fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

The former Skins star will appear in a biopic of the famed fashion icon who committed suicide in February 2010 aged 40.

The pair bear more than a passing resemblance, and with O'Connell showing off his acting chops in Angelina Jolie's Unbroken and Jodie Foster's Money Monster co-starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, it's bound to be another huge role for the young actor.

The film will focus on McQueen's preparations for his 2009 autumn/winter range, Horn of Plenty, which was also his penultimate collection.

Pathé added: "In 2009, Alexander McQueen put on one of his greatest shows - an extravagantly beautiful retrospective of his designs. It was a show that he dedicated to his mother and one in which he tried to make sense of his life and art.

"The film explores McQueen's creative process in the six months leading up to the show, the laughter that came easily with his family and friends, and the pressure that came with the relentless demands of the fashion industry. The film is a celebration of a visionary genius whose designs transcended fashion to become art."

Shooting is expected to begin in the spring.
