Vic and Bob go back to basics

Following on from successfully engineering Alan Partidge's comeback in the internet series Mid Morning Matters, Foster's has gone retro once more by luring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer out of sketch show retirement for a run of original characters which begin airing online today.

Having seen a preview screening of some selected footage which included some low IQ free runners (who like stripping down t otheir pants), a pair of gay glassblowers and Dr Shakamoto (above) with questionable morals and an even more questionable hairpiece, it appears to be pretty much as you'd expect from a guerilla-style concept that took Vic and Bob back twenty years to their comedy roots.

Armed with just a single camera and a boxful of wigs, the pair went out with no preconceived ideas at all, let alone a script, and it's obvious any plot or dialogue is pretty much being worked out in front of the camera, often all in the one and only take.

As with their old stuff it's inevitably hit and miss - some come across as a nostalgic return to form while others slip over into shamelessly self-indulgent. Either way, it's easy to see they had a lot of fun doing it, and it's easy to get taken along with them.

Vic and Bob's Afternoon Delights will be shown every weekday from the 4th July till the 29th at 1pm on www.fostersfunny.co.uk
