Let's say for a minute that you're Johnny Depp. You're Johnny Depp and you've lived through the Nineties and dated Kate Moss and been to every conceivable kind of Hollywood party; you've seen some things, man. You've made $750million from film roles and you sold out, but so what? Wouldn't you? And what does selling out even mean? Making more money? How terrible! Anyway, now you're TIRED. You're tired and you can't be bothered to memorise lines anymore... and now you've got people ratting on you about it.

In a court document filed against Depp by his former management team - who are being sued by the actor for mismanaging his earnings - it's written that "for years" Depp hired someone to feed him lines through an earpiece.

"Depp insisted that this sound engineer be kept on yearly retainer so that he no longer had to memorise his lines," according to the papers, written by attorney Michael Kump on behalf of The Management Group's Joel and Robert Mandel.

A lawyer for Depp responded by describing the allegations as "psychobabble".

In the new document, The Management Group (TMG) said Depp may have "compulsive spending disorder" and needs "a mental examination".

The boys

Along with the claims about John and his earpiece, Deadline also revealed details about the actor's lavish outgoings, which include...

  • $18m (£14.3m) on an 150 foot (45 metre) yacht
  • $4m (£3.2m) on a failed record label
  • $3m (£2.4m) to blast Hunter S Thompson's ashes out of a cannon
  • $300,000 (£238,600) a month to maintain a staff of 40 people
  • $200,000 (£159,000) a month on private planes
  • $150,000 (£119,330) a month on round-the-clock security
  • $30,000 (£23,800) a month on buying and importing wine

To be fair, blasting Hunter S Thompson's ashes out of a cannon was a pretty cool thing to do.
