Despite what a lot of navel-gazing highbrow critics might have you believe (yes Vertigo is good, but get over it), there have actually been some pretty great films made in the 21st century.

So, in the name of championing modern cinema, The New York Times asked six of Hollywood's most popular and prominent directors, including Sofia Coppola and Denis Villeneuve, to list their favourite films made in the past 17 years.
