Damon will also be staring in the biopic and he hasn't exactly been shy about the fact he wants to play RFK.

Speaking to CNBC he said: "If they could figure out a way to do Bobby Kennedy, I would love to do that. I just love that guy, and the incredible things he was saying at the end of his life."

The film is based on "His Life" - Evan Thomas' biography of Robert F Kennedy.

It follows his transformation from serving as the US General Attorney under his older brother President John F Kennedy, to becoming a much-loved New York senator until his assassination during his 1968 campaign for president.

Damon began to work on the biopic back in 2010 with Gary Ross directing, and Steven Knight screenwriting.

That line-up eventually fell through, but Damon's desire to play RFK hasn't. After all, the role could just be the chance to bag that Best Actor Oscar he has twice been nominated for.

Production is expected to start next year.
