Frost and Pegg: bonus round

Most Popular

In the forthcoming March issue of Esquire, BFFs Simon Pegg and Nick Frost — whose new movie Paul opens on 14 February (see the trailer here) — were kind enough to put their bromance to the test in a unique quiz. They each answered questions about each other, and then compared their answers to the real ones. As you can imagine it was a close call — so much so that we decided to have a little bonus round here at esquire.co.uk. First up, some questions about Nick.

10 QUESTIONS ABOUT NICK

What is Nick’s favourite thing about being on a film set?

SP: I think he just likes the general atmosphere. We both really enjoy being on film sets and getting to know everybody. In America you do have Craft Services which is amazing food and drink on tap, but I think Nick really gets a kick out of the team-work, the whole ethic of making a film.

NF: A film set is the first place in my life that I ever felt comfortable, like I belonged there.

What is the kindest thing Nick has ever done for Simon?

SP: That’s hard. Nick’s been there for me for 17 years and I would say it’s that — to be there as my friend. On many, many, many occasions he’s stepped up and looked after me. It’d be impossible to single one out.

NF: Oh god, we’ve been together so long… When there are crises we’re always the first to jump in and help each other, but nothing particular sticks out because we take quite a lot of time and effort to make sure we’re nice to each other most of the time.

What is Nick’s most over-used word or phrase?

SP: “C**t!” No, Nick’s just delightfully profane. Probably swearing.

NF: Probably “D’you know what I mean?”

What is the most embarrassing album on Nick’s iPod?

SP: He used to be into Bros when he was younger… I haven’t scanned his iPod so don’t know if he’s got a dark secret there.

NF: It really isn’t mine, it’s my wife’s, but David Gray is on there, and The Wombats, and I hate both of them. There’s a capella song [The Wombats] do on their first album and I hate it. And I hate them because of it.

What was Nick’s first professional acting job?

SP: It was Spaced. Oh no it wasn’t! Actually it was Big Train. He did a little cameo.

NF: I think I did a tiny part on the second series of Big Train. I didn’t say any words, it was just a quick part in a sketch.

Does Nick have any birthmarks?

SP: I don’t think he has a birthmark. He has a few moles. I had [a birthmark] here [points at forehead] but it was taken off. I’ve not fully explored underneath the hair — it’s hard to get to the skin. He’s such a bear of a man.

NF: I do not have any birthmarks.

SP: Probably coffee. As we’ve got older, it’s harder to get up. So probably coffee, food, Neurofen.

NF: I would say juice and Neurofen. Lots of vitamin C and sleep it off. I’m not a big drinker so I don’t really have hangovers.
