First look - The Fighter

The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg as struggling Boston boxer 'Irish' Micky Ward and Christian Bale as his crack-addicted step brother and trainer Dicky Ecklund, is rightly being tipped as a major Oscar contender.

Six Golden Globe nominations and a further four nominations for the the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards suggest that this remarkable true story of a brave but ultimately limited fighter battling his family and the fading light of his career will have a big say on when the gold statuettes are headed on 27 February.

There's a short review alongside the Manny Pacquiao feature in our February issue, while in our March edition the real life Micky Ward explains how he got Mark Wahlberg fighting fit for a role that looks set to kick an already stellar career onto a whole new level.

In the meantime, enjoy the trailer and make a date in your diary for 4 February, when The Fighter goes on general release.
