What We're Watching - December 26

Upstairs Downstairs - BBC One, 9pm

Upstairs Downstairs has returned. Though reviews have been mixed – particularly in the fall-out of period stormer Downton Abbey - we’re easily seduced by dapper gents and pretty ladies pottering around in posh houses.

It’s 1936 and the Hollands, with Sir Hallam (played with elegance by Ed Stoppard) at the helm, have moved into 165 Eaton Place. Similarly to the 70s original, the show takes focus on the fluctuating relationship between the servants downstairs and the posh folk upstairs. They may look sharp on screen, but Stoppard and Nico Mirallegro’s (who plays footman Johnny Proud) style credentials are proven in our January issue, where the pair can be seen rocking Ralph Lauren and Paul Smith just as well as a 1930s tux.
