Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective. ‘14 Actors Acting’ features some of Hollywood’s brightest stars performing classic movie archetypes, and the results are engrossing.
Commissioned by the New York Times, each clip is directed by leading fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø – a regular contributor to Nick Knight’s ShowStudio fashion blog - and features original composition by Owen Pallet.
The scenes, on occasion, veer towards the pretentious (a brooding Jesse Eisenberg, for one), but all are carried off with enough panache that they escape indulgence.
And there are genuine moments of cinematic magic, too; Vincent Cassell dancing in front of a mirror effortlessly reinforces his status as one of the coolest men on the planet, and Tilda Swinton dominates the screen in an astonishing extended close-up.
James Franco, Natalie Portman and Javier Bardem are amongst the other luminaries captured in black and white; click on the link to see more from Fourteen Actors Acting
