Without resorting to the fate-baiting cliché that is "iPhone killer", we'd like to point you at a new handset that could, feasibly, dethrone a certain Cupertino company's ubiquitous mobile. The HTC Hero has a lot to crow about, not least that it operates using the much publicised Android platform, This basically means thousands of user apps (both free and paid for), and limitless ways of personalising your phone's 'desktop'.
The new interface is also a pleasure to use: you can navigate between your Twitter feed, website bookmarks, and tracklist
Like Apple, HTC hasn't bothered with a camera flash for the Hero, rendering its photo function all but obsolete when the sun inevitably calls it a day. But we approve of the subtle yet effective curve at the tail end of the phone that not only ensures a closer fit with your face, but neatly raises the trackball closer to your thumb for more comfortable scrolling. Out in July, price and network availability TBA.
