The Van d'Or Film Awards

Cannes in a Van, the "four-wheel film festival", has launched a competition for all aspiring short and feature-length film directors, the pithily named Van d’Or independent film awards.

Cannes in a Van was set up in 2006 by a group of independent film enthusiasts whose aim was to provide exposure to the subterranean movie scene. Each year the group travels down from London to Cannes in their Ford Transit to awaken people's passion for indie film, a sector which they feel the revered main festival has overlooked.

The inaugural Van d’Or Awards for independent film were held at The Roxy Bar & Screen in London in August of last year, celebrating some of the films screened during Cannes in a Van 2011. This year there'll be a glitzy award ceremony and additional categories, including one for students.

Submissions are now being accepted and are open to all film-makers across Europe. See the video below if you need a few extra words of encouragement about why the world of independent needs your contribution.
