New Godzilla Trailer

Including plenty of Bryan Cranston

After a wealth of enjoyable if earnest award-baiting films, it’s time to get excited about cinema’s other season: the summer blockbuster.

Top of our list so far is this: the new Godzilla film.

The main reason – other than watching a giant radioactive monster destroy New York, of course – is the welcome return into our lives of Bryan Cranston.

Fans of Breaking Bad will immediately recognise the panicked, incredulous tones of Joe Brody in the new trailer: "You're lying! It was not an earthquake, it wasn't a typhoon, because what's really happening is that you're hiding something out there. And it is going to send us back to the Stone Age!" he says. You could almost be listening to Walter White telling Jesse off for messing up their latest cook.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen also star, as British director Gareth Edwards takes the franchise in what appears to be an enjoyably straight-faced direction.

Noisy buckets of popcorn at the ready.
