1 | Jennifer Lawrence keeps getting better
Apologies for stating the bleedin’ obvious here, but even great actors sometimes treat blockbusters as an excuse to ham it up or phone it in. Hollywood’s golden girl brought real pathos to the character of Raven / Mystique, proving once again what an amazing talent she is. As a slightly unsettling bonus, she also manages to make yellow eyes and blue scaly skin look sexy.
2 | Evan Peters should be kept on as Quicksilver
He’s only a minor character in X-Men DOFP, but Quicksilver stars in one of the film’s standout set pieces when he rearranges a shoot out in slow motion. Evan Peters nails it as the Avenger’s impish, arrogant younger self, making it a shame he’s being replaced by the wooden (but more handsome) Aaron Taylor-Johnson for next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
3 | Peter Dinklage suits a porn ‘tache
The Game of the Thrones actor’s turn as baddie Bolivar Trask was cleverly nuanced, but the wardrobe department didn’t hold back one bit. The brown suit and big hair were perfect but the real revelation was the Selleck soup strainer. We’ll never look at Tyrion Lannister quite the same again.
4 | Michael Fassbender channeling Ian McKellen is quite something
The 12 Years A Slave star studied the grand knight’s performances in preparation for the role and has admitted to finding playing the young Sir Ian intimidating. Unsurprisingly Fassbender is brilliant, playing the young Magneto with a mixture of his usual intensity and slightly more clipped vowels.
5 | It’s worth staying until after the credits
Just trust us on this one.
