A new teaser trailer has been released for forthcoming Pablo Escobar biopic Paradise Lost, starring Benicio Del Toro as the Colombian drug overlord.
The film is the directorial and writing debut of actor Andrea di Stefano (Life of Pi, Eat Pray Love), and follows the story of an young surfer called Nick (played by Josh Hutcherson) who moves to Colombia and falls for a girl called Maria (Claudia Traisac). Life is perfect until he meets Maria’s uncle – no prizes for guessing who that turns out to be.
The thing about a teaser trailer is that they’re only 30 seconds long – more a trailer of a trailer, which will be drip fed online in the coming months to build hype ahead of its release.
As such trying to discern any signs, be they good or bad, of the film’s quality is largely futile. But as the cautious optimists we are, we’re going to guess Paradise Lost will fall somewhere between Scarface and Mr. Nice in the drug dealer movie quality stakes. So a bit like Blow, in other words.
