McConaughey Channels 'True Detective' In New Interstellar Trailer

Christopher Nolan's space epic is shaping up very nicely indeed

The latest trailer for Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming space epic (is anything set in space ever anything else?) sees Matthew McConaughey in full True Detective mode, opening the action with a philosophical muse that could have came straight from the mouth of Rust Cohle.

It bodes well for Interstellar, a film that sees McConaughey’s astronaut set off into the galaxy to look for a habitable alternative to Earth with Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain.

It takes an actor of real skill to pull you into a preposterous story line (specially one by a director as straight faced as Nolan), something George Clooney failed to do in Gravity, the last big budget space film we were supposed to fall for.

Already from the trailer McConaughey’s relationship with his daughter (played by Mackenzie Foy) looks touching and believable, hopefully providing an emotional counterbalance to the dramatic-peril-in-space stuff.

It’s early days, but we’re going out on a limb and saying this could well be the crowning moment of the McConaissance.
