New Homeland 4 Trailer: Cause For Cautious Optimism

All is not well in the world of espionage

The first trailer for Homeland season 4 got us (very) cautiously optimistic that we might be looking at a return to form for a show that went badly off the boil last year.

This week's slow-burn second trailer –which reminds us where the key players are at post-Brody – also includes some encouraging signs.

We know already that the focus will be back on Carrie and that she’ll be heading to the Middle East to do the kind of kooky-trust-me-I’m-a-genius espionage that she’s become known for.

Meanwhile Peter Quinn, Rupert Friend’s CIA operative, is still looking for a way to get out of the game, perhaps due to his and Carrie's motorcade being confronted by an armed and angry mob.

However, the most exciting part of the trailer has to be the brief scenes of Corey Stoll finding himself in a tough spot in a Middle Eastern street.

By far the best thing about the first season of House Of Cards, Stoll is becoming known for his powerful character acting and his addition to the cast – playing Sandy Bachman, a rising star in the agency – suggests Homeland might be about to get its game back.

Homeland Season 4 airs on 5 October on Showtime
