Did Nas Make The Perfect Album?

A new documentary about Illmatic suggests he may have

Any rap aficionado knows that the modern hip-hop scene owes a debt to Nas' seminal 1994 album Illmatic.

In fact, the album has become such a cultural touch-stone that it's become the focus of a new documentary, Nas: Time Is Illmatic, directed by One9 (a man so hip-hop he doesn't need a real name).

The first trailer has appeared online and highlights Nas' ambition when writing and recording the LP, with the rapper admitting he was "trying to make the perfect album".

The likes of Alicia Keys, Busta Rhymes and Pharrell Williams appear to argue the Queens native did just that, with each of them popping up to talk about how the album has influenced their careers and shaped the state of modern hip-hop for the better.

Nas: Time Is Illmatic is set to be released across the UK on 24 October. timeisillmatic.com
