…Wielded a sword
On set for Dracula Untold [origin story of Vlad the Impaler; Cooper plays his friend turned foe, Mehmed the Conqueror]. I trained for months. But more often that not I’d arrive on set for filming and none of what I’d learned would work because of scenery or space or the dialogue.
…Played a video game
Earlier this year. I tried out Need for Speed after I’d done the film [based on the racing-game franchise]. I’d not played properly since I was a kid, when I asked for a Commodore Amiga and got a Sinclair Spectrum. That sent me into mourning for a bit.
Earlier this year in France, because you have to wear Speedos in any swimming pool there for hygiene reasons. I’m not sure why shorts are any less hygienic.
…Had a full-bladed shave
Was to play Ian Fleming [in BBC America mini-series Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond]. It was quite refreshing. I felt like a small piece of mackerel that’s just been filleted.
Last weekend against some ladies in their seventies . I don’t like the gym. I can’t bear running on a machine. It’s not enough for me to use a treadmill just because I want nice thighs.
…Sang in public
was probably very recently. I’m always at some awful karaoke machine. I do Duran Duran’s 'Hungry Like the Wolf' or INXS’s 'Never Tear Us Apart'. I’ve not sung on screen since the Abba musical, Mamma Mia! in 2008. No one’s paid for it since.
was when I started acting. It’s incredible and astonishing anyone is interested or would write anything or have an opinion on you. Then you realise you don’t necessarily want to hear their opinions.
…Saw James Corden
May this year. We went back to a bar, Deacon Brodie’s Tavern, we used to frequent when we lived in New York together [in 2006, performing in the Broadway transfer of The History Boys. We happened to be in the city at the same time, which is always a recipe for a brilliant disaster. I think we made up a song.
