'Straight Outta Compton Trailer': Dr Dre And Ice Cube Film New Introduction

N.W.A stars film new introduction for forthcoming biopic

In a carefully choreographed sequence, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube drive back to the streets of Compton and are greeted like returning heroes, sparking impromptu street parties and back slaps all round as they declare "this is the time to tell our story".

The story, of course, being how – a lifetime before earphone empires and family comedies – they rewrote the rules of hiphop as members of N.W.A.

The clip is an introduction to a forthcoming biopic of the band Straight Outta Compton in which Cube's son O’Shea Jackson Jr. plays his father.

Directed by F. Gary Gary – probably still best known for 1998's The Negotiator – and starring Paul Giamatti as the band's manager Jerry Heller, there is cause of cautious optimism the film might actually be any good.

By the looks of the trailer, mixed in with the inevitable eulogising of Yella, Dre, Eazy-E, Cube and MC Ren will be at least some attempt to place the band within the context of LA policing and the racial tensions of the 80s. Oh and lots of women with no clothes on, naturally.
