JK Simmons' biceps return

It’s hard to imagine after its triple Oscar win, but there was a time when Whiplash director Damien Chazelle was unable to raise funding for the film.

But, much like a young jazz drummer determined to succeed against all the odds, Chazelle scraped together enough cash to shoot this short film – really just one scene – and submitted it to Sundance film festival.

Clearly, the short (almost re-shot word for word in the finished product) impressed financers, either that or JK Simmons' Oscar-winning biceps and black t-shirt combo intimidated them into putting the money up.

It’s a great insight into how one of our favourite films of the year came about, but spare a thought for Johnny Simmons (playing the role of Andrew Neiman – no relation to JK) who lost out on the feature length role to the might Miles Teller.

Presumably he was either rushing or dragging.
