With the first trailer for Spectre dropping today and the poster last week, much of the furor on the interwebs was over James Bond not wearing a suit. But as any good spy knows, the classic black turtleneck—or tactleneck—is one of the three major players in the secret agent sartorial arsenal (the third, of course, is nothing).

There is a reason for this: they're badass. Just look at the damn poster. But in case you need further proof, here are some more great moments in turtleneck history.

Craig isn't the first Bond to wear this look. In Live and Let Die, Roger Moore also rocked the turtleneck/shoulder-holster combo.
