You probably haven’t heard of Bill Cunningham, but the long-serving New York Times photographer, now in his eighties, has been documenting street fashion before the concept was a twinkle in The Sartorialist’s iPhone.

A moving new documentary follows him as he pedals around Manhattan in his shabby janitor’s jacket on his rickety bicycle photographing society types and everyday folk for his “On the Street” and “Evening Hours” newspaper columns. Cunningham, you should know, for all his downbeat style, old-time manners and broad Brooklyn vowels, is one of the most beloved people in the fashion world.
