Cast your mind back to 1977 (or the last time you cracked open your DVD boxset) and the opening script of Star Wars: A New Hope (then just ‘Star Wars’) scrolling through space.
The set-up, if you remember, for Darth Vader boarding Leia’s space craft is the theft of the blueprints to the Death Star, an event which ultimately led to the Imperial spacestation getting blown to smithereens by an already overly-cocky Luke Skywalker.
The first film of the announced Star Wars Anthology series – one-off films to be released in-between the new trilogy – is set to deal with exactly how these plans got into rebel hands, in a sort of intergalactic heist movie.

We already know that 2016’s Rogue One will star Felicity Jones as a rebel soldier, but at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim California, the film’s director Gareth Edwards took to the stage to unveil the first teaser and outline the plot.
Teaser trailer-wise, we get a look at a leafy planet with the Death Star hanging in the sky like a moon, while Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi gives a brief history of the Jedi order (again, from A New Hope).
It’s the plot details revealed by Edwards that we’re really excited about though. Following on from Episode III and set closer to A New Hope (Episode IV), Rogue One will deal with a time when there were no known Jedi in the galaxy and the cost of the rebellion was very mortal.
All of which sounds like we're in for a very gritty, possibly even realistic Star Wars film to nicely fill that empty spot between Episode's VII and VIII.
Also rumoured to star Ben Mendelsohn, Star Wars: Rogue One will be released on 16 December 2016.
