Richard E Grant appears to have joined the cast of Game of Thrones' sixth season.

The HBO show has been added to the Withnail & I actor's agency CV, although his involvement in the series has yet to be officially confirmed.

Grant – who has recently appeared in Doctor Who and Downton Abbey – could be the latest high-profile British actor to join the George RR Martin adaptation, following the likes of Ian McShane and Freddie Stroma.

A flood of Game of Thrones casting news has emerged in recent weeks, as filming begins across the world on season six.

It was previously confirmed that Max von Sydow will take over as the mystical Three-eyed Raven.

Other newcomers include The Borgias star Pilou Asbæk as the savage Euron Greyjoy and 13-year-old Sebastian Croft as the young Ned Stark.

Elsewhere, Rory McCann has fuelled speculation that his character The Hound will return for season six after he was apparently spotted in Belfast, near where the hit HBO show is being filmed.

Season six of Game of Thrones is currently filming and will return on April 3, 2016.
