Star Wars: Episode VIII—the sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in case you weren't keeping track—has been delayed seven months, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced. Originally set for release May 26, 2017, the film will now debut on Dec. 15, 2017

A statement from Lucasfilm said: "The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere outside the traditional summer blockbuster window and smashed numerous records."

There's no other obvious reason for the move, unless Stan Lee's got his way and they're making script adjustments to add a couple of the Avengers to the cast, of course.

Rian Johnson will be in the director's chair for this one, with JJ Abrams sticking around as executive producer.

Hopefully there will be more news to follow.
