How Microsoft Envisions The Future Of Watching Live Sport

Behold, Microsoft’s vision for you Saturday afternoons: St. James’ Park on your coffee table, Jamie Vardy doing keepie-ups in the your living room and that tactics board Gary Neville used to use on Sky swallowing up your entire wall and possibly sucking your pet dog into its swirling vortex.

OK, so this video entitled ‘What could the future of football look like’ refers to the pretend version they play in America, but it would only be a matter of years before the ‘mixed reality HoloLens headset’ it is advertising is rolled out in the UK too.

In this bold vision for a new spectator experience, you invite your mates round for the big game and pop on headset which means you can’t actually see each other but you can see a series of holograms and stats floating around like an immersive go on FIFA.

As you’d expect from a company of Microsoft’s resources, it’s a well-made promo video, though we can’t help but notice the people having the most fun in it appear to be those who aren’t fiddling with a Velcro strap and accidentally pouring beer down their chin. Just an observation.
