Mallrats 2: More Casting Details For Kevin Smith's Sequel

Jay of Jay and Silent Bob spills (some) beans

Anyone who was stoner in the mid-90s, listen up: more details have emerged about Mallrats 2.

The original film - Kevin Smith's critically panned follow up to his debut Clerks – went on to become a cult classic among bong-happy young male audiences, thanks to its idiosyncratic dialogue (Smith's trademark), a cameo from Marvel founder Stan Lee and the presence of 90210 beauty Shannen Doherty.

Now, in an interview with Metro, one of the film's stars Jason Mewes – Jay of Jay and Silent Bob fame – has revealed a bit more about the sequel which is due to shoot this summer.

"It'll be awesome," he said. 'The characters from the first movie will be there with their kids in the mall."

Jason Lee – the ex-professional skateboarder and stand out performer in the original film – is expected to return, with only Ben Affleck, who is busy being Batman, unlikely to join the reunion.

It's not the first time Smith has plundered former glories: Clerks was given a sequel in 2006 that inevitably failed to match the DIY indie brilliance of the original while Jay and Silent Bob appeared in their own comedy in 2001.

Expect a sequel to his grossly under-rated 1997 comedy Chasing Amy sometime in 2019. Maybe.
