New thriller Margin Call delivers a banker’s-eye view of the financial meltdown (but don’t worry, it’s still their fault).
"This is a f***ing s***shower" says Sam Rogers (Kevin Spacey), head of sales at a nameless investment bank, in what must go down as some epic understatement. Over the course of 24 hours in 2008, Sam and his colleagues (including Zachary Quinto, Jeremy Irons and Demi Moore) twig that a financial catastrophe of their own making is about to engulf them.
You may not give a hoot how the bankers felt as the ship they’d so kindly torpedoed for the rest of us finally began to list, but this debut by writer-director JC Chandor is supremely smart, utterly mesmerising and, when you mull it over afterwards, just a little chilling.
