China Has Just Stormed Ahead In The Search For Alien Life

Your move, Obama

If the truth is out there, then the Chinese government is dead-set on finding it first.

Yesterday, China fitted the final piece on what will be the world's largest radio telescope, capable of picking up any radio waves given off by UFOs and alien life.

The Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST, for short), situated in the remote hills of southwest province Guizhou, has been under construction since 1994, is 500 metres wide, and has cost over £130 million to build.

And the sacrifices haven't merely been financial: more than 9,000 people have been displaced from their (destroyed) village in the mountain basin, for fear that they would interfere with the telescope's pin-drop sensors.

According to official news agency Xinhua, scientists will now start debugging the telescope and running trials, before beginning operation in September.

China has stated that its space program (including the launch of their first space station in Beijing in 2018) has peaceful purposes, but the  US Defence Department has said it was pursuing activities aimed to "prevent adversaries from using space-based assets in a crisis," according to news agency Reuters.

Which is all very scary and space war-sounding, but did we mention that China were also planning on opening an astronomy theme park? Sorry Obama, we know whose side we're on.
