Lucasfilms and Magic have confirmed they are working on a virtual reality film that will let viewers become part of the narrative - and even better yet, they've confirmed the film will feature Darth Vader.
David S.Goyer, who wrote The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, and Blade amongst other high grossing films, is on board to write the project.
He has previously worked in the gaming world having written for Call Of Duty: Black Ops. During a Star Wars Celebration panel discussion, the writer revealed what the immersive experience will be like for fans:
"You are the visitor in this story that is happening in and around you, and to a certain extent you might even have some effect on [the narrative]," he said. "You can pick up things, you can open things. You can push things, you can walk. You can touch characters." The experience will take place in a "persistent" world, one that cycles through day and night, has evolving weather conditions, and continues to go on even after the "visitor" has gone through the story for the first time.
Goyer also spoke about why they had chosen to base the project around Vader:
"When we looked at all the characters, places, and worlds in the Star Wars universe available to us, we asked ourselves, 'What haven't we seen before? Who are we curious about?" he said. "Darth Vader is the perfect ambassador to usher us into the Star Wars VR universe."
The untitled project will be linked to the overall Lucasfilm universe and its storyline will be its own series canon that gives the audience a totally new experience, unlike viewing films or playing games.
Not sure they can pull it off? We find your lack of faith disturbing...
