If you're sick and tired of normal houses with their wood and brick and refined colour palettes - and if you have £2.4 million spare - then this Flintstones-inspired monstrosity pad might be the home for you.

Designed in 1976 by architect William Nicholson, this San Francisco house was an experiment in new building materials; with the domes being created by spraying shotcrete onto steel and placing mesh frames over giant aeronautical balloons. As an ode to the sixties cartoon series, it's unsurpassed (even by the terrible movie).
