The sweaty-palmed heart thumping stress of 'dead battery anxiety' reportedly affects 92% of people in the UK. So as you race to slide that brightness down and close your apps, it's useful to know which are actually shortening your screen time the most.
A study into usage found that apps that 'wake up' your phone and use a high amount of data will shrink your battery the most, regardless of which smartphone you use. The list, which is a mix of social media, messaging and GPRS services, isn't entirely surprising but here they are in order of battery chomping-ness:
- Google Maps
- Facebook Messenger
- Blackberry Messenger
- The Weather Channel (who knew?)
Sadly the research was conducted between January and April of this year, before the world was overtaken by Pokémon catching - though given it's use of GPRS, internet and Google Maps, Pokémon Go would certainly come up top for battery draining.
