These 10 Apps Are Killing Your Battery

Close them, close them all

The sweaty-palmed heart thumping stress of 'dead battery anxiety' reportedly affects 92% of people in the UK. So as you race to slide that brightness down and close your apps, it's useful to know which are actually shortening your screen time the most.

A study into usage found that apps that  'wake up' your phone and use a high amount of data will shrink your battery the most, regardless of which smartphone you use. The list, which is a mix of social media, messaging and GPRS services, isn't entirely surprising but here they are in order of battery chomping-ness:

  2. Google Maps
  3. Facebook Messenger
  4. Instagram
  5. Blackberry Messenger
  6. Chat0n
  7. Kik
  8. WhatsApp
  9. WeChat
  10. The Weather Channel (who knew?)

Sadly the research was conducted between January and April of this year, before the world was overtaken by Pokémon catching - though given it's use of GPRS, internet and Google Maps, Pokémon Go would certainly come up top for battery draining.
