If you've been on the internet today, or, you know, have a pulse, than you're probably aware that there's an entertaining new Kanye West interview making the rounds. W magazine features Ye on the cover of its new 2016 "Royals" issue and, needless to say, the corresponding Q&A is brimming with top-notch quotes. Especially with regard to his feelings on the fashion industry.

The entire gist of the interview, and really Yeezy's whole media presence circa 2016, can be summed up in one truly amazing statement: "I will fucking laser you with alien f*cking eyes and explode your f*cking head."

While that quote is pretty hard to top, West does spend the rest of the interview expounding on his general thesis: "I wouldn't say that anyone in fashion is on my side. I don't think there's anyone on my side."

Though this interview was conducted before last week's Yeezy Season 4 show, he does make a fair point. Critics were not particularly kind to the presentation and, aside from the popularity of his Adidas Yeezy Boosts, West's designs as whole have not been roundly embraced. To this, he compares himself to Penelope in the movie Wreck-It Ralph (the first of four movie comparisons, the others being Pursuit of Happiness, Despicable Me, and Elf. Dude clearly has his Netflix subscription up to date):

"You know when Penelope puts together her car? And she's like, 'Made it myself,' and everybody that has professional cars, they say, 'Look at you with your little car and you're going to do this,' and then they break her car, right? That's basically the fashion world to me."

I will fucking laser you with alien fucking eyes and explode your fucking head.

West then goes on to draw a line in the sand between him and his naysayers. "I refuse people who write me off as some rich kid taking a hobby, fashion as a fucking hobby or a fashion plate." He then points out that very few people know he has a PhD in art, which he actually does, from the Art Institute of Chicago (although technically it's honorary). We're not sure how that relates to fashion, or his place in it, but it is kind of cool.

And while this is generally a pretty great Kanye West interview, and well worth a read, the thing is that, with all of his bombast and his rants (he's definitely achieved artist status with that), somewhere down in there is a creative guy who loves to create. Which is partly what makes him so eternally fascinating. It's just that the other part, the part that gets most of the attention, is that he says crazy things, like quotes about laser eyes.

But the fact is, he is talented. The only question is: What is he talented at? Music for sure. Manipulating social media? He certainly knows how to get people talking. Fashion? Well, the verdict's still out on that one.

God willing that chip on his shoulder continues to keep him motivated, because he's truly one of the most fascinating celebrities we have. Like him or not, you're definitely talking about him. And who knows, if Trump really does get elected president, maybe his post-apocalyptic Yeezy designs won't seem like such a bad idea after all.
