George Clooney has had his say on Angelina Jolie's decision to file for divorce from Brad Pitt, and by the sounds of it he was just as surprised as the rest of us.

Appearing at the United Nations yesterday, George was approached by a reporter from CNN asking him his thoughts on the couple, when he responded: "What happened?"

When told that Brangelina were in fact no more, George replied: "I didn't know that. Wow. I feel very sorry then.

"That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that. That's the first I've heard of it."

Brad and George famously starred together in the Ocean's film series, as well as in black comedy Burn After Reading and Touch Of Evil.

Angelina filed for divorce from Brad yesterday (September 20) after two years of marriage and more than 12 years together, citing irreconcilable differences - a decision made for "the health of the family".

Angelina has since released a statement to E! News through her manager Geyer Kosinski, saying: "Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her family.

"She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."

Brad has also broken his silence on the split - admitting he was "very saddened" by the breakdown of their marriage.

"What matters most now is the well-being of our kids," he added. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
