In what could prove busy day for Manchester United's HR department, is has been alleged that manager Jose Mourinho has a nickname for his club captain Wayne Rooney: 'Fat Boy'.
The claim has been made in a new book by journalist Rob Beasley who wrote that in 2013, when the Special(ish) One was set on taking the England skipper to Chelsea, he asked Beasley's son "what do you think of us trying to sign the Fat Boy?" in reference to the artist known as Wazza.
It was a joke, of course, but given Rooney precarious situation at Old Trafford – where he has started every game for Jose but come under a torrent of criticism for below par performances – it will be unlikely to help what already looks a season in trouble.
Even still, those familiar with the terrace abuse commonly aimed at Rooney will recognise that as nicknames go, 'Fat Boy' is farily tame. At least it wasn't 'Shrek' or indeed 'Granny shagger'.
