In Britain, we take a lot of pride in our rich drinking culture – which is weird, because any Friday night stroll around a high street nightclub or pub will attest to the fact that we're the most embarrassing lightweights in the world.

So it's no surprise that we're nowhere to be seen in the World Health Organisation's ranking of the countries that imbibe the most booze.

They've gone and calculated the total amount of alcohol that's consumed by the average person in each county in litres per year.
