The dawn of the mobile phone app has facilitated many sins - lust (Tinder), vanity (Instagram), greed (Dominos) – but until now, it hasn't offered much in the way of spiritual redemption.
Launched this week at the Vatican, The Catholic app – which has already been dubbed 'Sindr' (crying laughter face emoji) – allows users to search for the nearest confessional or Holy Mass, meaning forgiveness is now as easy to find as your local Pret.
Expected to go live in early 2017, it was devised by Scottish Archbishop Leo Cushley who wisely gave some of the credit to his boss in an interview with Vatican Radio.
"The idea was really inspired by the Holy Father himself. He said to be imaginative about what to do for the Holy Year of Mercy," he said.
