For most people who mess up at work, the most they can expect is a dressing down by their boss or, at the very worst, a freshly printed P45 on their desk.
So spare a thought for the Buckingham Palace guard who almost shot the Queen after she decided to take a late-night walk around the palace grounds.
Something tells us a simple telling off wouldn't have sufficed.
According to the Independent, a guard was patrolling inside the parameter of the Palace walls when he spotted a dark figure roaming around.
Thinking that it may have been a dangerous intruder, the guard shouted: "Who's that?", only to find that it was Queeny herself, on one of her regular insomnia-slaying walks.
"Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you," he is reported to have said.
Immediately after, he worried that the mere mention of attacking the Queen would land him in the Tower, but according to The Times she took full responsibility for the mistake, saying: "That's quite all right. Next time I'll ring through beforehand so you don't have to shoot me."
A lesson for us all: if you're minding your business at work, and a shadowy figure starts roaming in the distance, don't shoot them - because it could be the actual Queen.
